A southern gospel recording artist, songwriter, and minister. Sharing happiness of Salvation in Jesus, planting the Good Seed of God's Word, stirring souls, touching lives, and keeping the devil on the run, is the goal of Sharon and husband, Jerry. She was born in Eldorado, Illinois, to Lester and Gwyn Hobbs. They taught her the value of Salvation and instilled in her the love for the Word of God. At age 5 she sang her first solo in her home church and she fell in love with the Savior at a young age of 9 and their relationship just gets sweeter as the days go by. On a cold wintry day in December 1961, Sharon and her parents became victims of carbon monoxide poisoning. A faulty heating stove slowly leaked this poison, unknown to them, and filled their home for several days. They were found by neighboring friends, Dolly and Roy Eaton, (a truck driver for "Ruan") and the authorities were called. When found, the dad (WWII Veteran/fought five major battles) had already been gone four hours. Sharon and her mother were taken to Wood River Township Hospital, in Wood River, Illinois, for several weeks. Recovery came through much prayer and great professional care. Sharon married her soul mate, Jerry Benson, in 1967. They have two talented sons, Jerry Lee Jr. and Joel. Joel and Beth blessed them with three wonderful grandchildren, Jordan, Joshua and Katrina. The Trucking Ministries were introduced to them in 1994. Since their lively hood was as owner operators trucking goods coast-to-coast along with other truckers keeping this country moving, why not take this opportunity and share the good news of Jesus Christ to those on the open highway (Luke 14:23) through gospel music and testimony. The National Day of Prayer for Truckers, March of each year, is held at the Mid-America Truck Show in Louisville, Kentucky. Founded by Bob and Carol Hataway of Trans Alive USA, sponsored by Transport for Christ Ministries, and TruckStop Ministries, Inc. of Jackson, Georgia, Jerry and Sharon have been honored to provide the gospel music for this service since 2001.
